P.O.V. (‘Point of View’) es una propuesta que redefine el concepto de intérprete extendido (‘extended performer’) desde una perspectiva interdisciplinaria. Este enfoque combina música electrónica, gafas de realidad virtual, video y redes sociales como elementos integrales de la performance. A través de esta interacción multimedia, no sólo se busca amplificar el impacto sensorial de la obra, sino también fomentar una reflexión crítica sobre cómo la tecnología y las redes sociales moldean la percepción y la identidad en la contemporaneidad.

xeno-/exo-/astro -choreoreadings is a postdoctoral artistic research project that explores research questions that reopen site- and place-responsive choreographic practices by expanding the notions of ‘site’ and ‘place’ to outer space. The prefixes in the title refer to planetary conditions to which I do not have direct access. Another key choreographic exploration focuses on embodying hyper-reading and examining the impact of digital reading on embodied artistic practice.

Playing the Mountain is an artistic research project investigating balance as the dynamic interplay of yinyang, through the practice of taijiquan (a Chinese internal martial art). Based on this embodied practice, I explore balance not as a state but as movement, by transposing this dynamic of opposing forces into a constellation of participatory, sculptural and expanded cinema forms. Drawing on principles of Chinese aesthetics from a diasporic perspective, Playing the Mountain deploys artistic strategies to consider agency, (non-)presence, tension, and resistance.

This exposition invites you to reflect on the various things you do in your doctoral artistic research and to consider how these activities might form an interconnected system — a methodology. In a guided tour of words, images, and visits to my garden, I reconsider several research models I encountered as a PhD student investigating transdisciplinary performing practices. However, my primary aim is to carve out a pathway — from model to metaphor — one that offers a viable means of seeing your doctoral project existing within a terrain of complexity rather than utter chaos.

‘Selective Retention: Composing through Queries and Graphs’ reflects on composing through software systems while focusing on reinterpreting musical materials through computational methods. The exposition examines two projects that utilise software tools as temporal portals, merging algorithms with composition to create new musical contexts. It highlights the evolving relationship between these tools and their source materials, emphasising a process of iterative approaches and adaptation.

The digital revolution is boosting innovations across our contemporary social life and culture with a strong impact in performing arts studies, creation and fruition. By exploiting augmented and virtual technologies and their cutting-edge applications, contemporary researchers, performers, composers and artists are spurred to renovate their traditional practices and creations, and overcome the boundaries of real stages towards virtual stages and extended reality (XR), where the physical encounters the digital.

¿Existe un enfoque, principio o disposición de la investigación artística que dé unidad a los elementos heterogéneos que la conforman (diferentes procedencias disciplinares y enfoques epistemológicos) y le confiera carácter propio? Ese proceder, se propone aquí, es el especulativo. Desde la danza y mediante ejercicios coreográficos, se quiere hallar descripción de lo que sería una especulación estética, aquella que consideraría al acto de creación como parte del proceso del pensar.
