Cara is a Lecturer in Creative Music Technologies at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. Her artistic practice blends traditional southern African musical bows, and diverse electronic and acoustic musical languages. Her research has primarily focused on musical bows, the Swati makhoyane in particular, and notions around innovation, heritage and ecological knowledge. Before this appointment, Cara was a Lecturer in African Music at North-West University. She holds a PhD from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and was a Commonwealth Split-Site scholar between UCT and SOAS, University of London, during that time.
