Deadline for nominations to the SAR Executive Board is: 28th December 2012. Nominations should be sent by email to the President: firstname.lastname@example.org with a cc to the Vice Presidents Florian Dombois email@example.com and Rolf Hughes firstname.lastname@example.org. For your nominee, please include name, contact details (email and phone), institutional affiliation (if applicable), a brief CV (1 page), and a short motivation statement (5-7 lines). Individual members are warmly encouraged to attend the General Assembly, as well as to vote and run for office on the Executive Board.
Individual membership payments are currently being processed and it will also be possible to register and pay for individual membership during the General Assembly (cash payment only, unfortunately no cards can be accepted). The annual membership fee is 50€ for individuals or 15€ for a student (proof of registration from art school or university is required – a scan is sufficient).
All nominees for the Executive Board should note that the first meeting will take place 15.00–17.00, Saturday 9th March 2013. Presence will be mandatory for those elected.
3. JAR update and deadlines
JAR issues are non-thematic; submissions are assessed by the editorial board, in a rolling fashion, as they are submitted.
We anticipate that JAR 2 will be published at the end of October/early November.
If authors wish to be considered for JAR 3, submissions need to be made as soon as possible. Submission guidelines are outlined on the JAR website and blog.
Deadline for JAR 4 is 28th December 2012.
As JAR depends on attracting high quality submissions, SAR members are strongly encouraged to work pro-actively to solicit, support and submit contributions to JAR.
4. Research Catalogue Portal Pilot Scheme
Following the recent release of the Research Catalogue (RC), the Society for Artistic Research (SAR) seeks institutional partners to pilot the use of the RC as institutional repository and/or alternative publication platform for three years. Possibilities exist for portal partnership for all or part of the duration of the pilot project (January 2012–December 2014). Members of SAR paying 5000 euro or more annually are eligible to apply to be portal partners. Additional costs, including administration and introduction workshop, are negotiated according to the needs of individual partners.
We currently have five full portal partners: Artistic Research Archives, Gothenburg University, Norwegian Programme for Artistic Research, University of the Arts, The Hague Royal Conservatoire, and Zurich University of the Arts. We welcome applications for potential portal partnerships in the new year. Details are available here:
5. Research Catalogue (RC) now hosted by
Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm
The RC is from 9th October 2012 being hosted at KTH (School of Education and Communication in Engineering Science). The move indicates KTH's interest in supporting artistic and design-led research activities, and is expected to trigger increasing collaboration between KTH and SAR. For SAR, the move represents the possibility of a stable platform and host for the immediate future, as the agreement is initially for seven years. We look forward to developing research applications and initiatives with our new partner.
6. SAR has a new address!
SAR has moved its back office to Bern, Switzerland:
Society for Artistic Research
PO Box 675
CH-3000 Bern 8
T +41 (0)31 312 72 72
F +41 (0)31 312 38 01
Caroline Trebing, of the “Büro Silvia Müller - kulturmanagement | verbandmanagement”, is responsible for SAR back office work.
The Research Catalogue (RC) is a searchable, documentary database of artistic research work and its exposition. The RC is an inclusive, open-ended, bottom-up research tool that supports the journal's academic contributions.
